Tainung #1 is a vigorous plant that is a high yield producer and has tolerance to PRSV (papaya ring spot Virus). Red fleshed fruit averaging 1.1 kg with a very sturdy outer shell for long distance shipping. High yield producer setting fruit at average 70 cm. Outer husk ripens with a green orange coloring. Female fruits are globe shaped and hermaphrodite fruits have a pointed blossom end. This variety is very popular in the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia and Africa. F1 Hybrid with 50/50 ratio of hermaphrodite to female trees.
